Bullrush by Kees

Bullrush is my favourite lunchtime game to play because you get to run, tackle and it's a bit rough for everyone. At our school, there are a lot of people who participate in bullrush.  I also like bullrush because there are a lot of challenges and strategy to the game, which makes it a bit hard and fun.

The rules of bullrush

There are a few rules to bullrush. It starts with one or two people who stand in the middle of a field who are the tacklers. The tacklers choose someone who tries to run through. If they get tackled they join the tacklers in the middle. If they don't everyone runs and the tacklers try to get someone. This goes on until there is one person left who wins, and then they have to be in the middle.

At Gracefield we also have some other rules. If you want to play you have to be a Year 3 or over. Also, if you tackle someone from the neck and over they get to go past without anybody tackling them.

What I learned about bullrush

Bullrush is played in many different countries, like the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa.

There are many different names for bullrush in many different countries that are really surprising. For example, British Bulldog, Jailbreak and Russian Bulldog.

Some schools banned the game in the 90s but kids love it so much they started up playing the game again. When they get hurt they recover and play again.

We love bullrush at Gracefield School. Why don't you come to join us in our next game?
